Well hello there, stranger…

Nope, not Eminem. Not Jack Nicholson. Not Arnold… just little ol’ me.

Why, you ask?

I’m honestly not sure, other than I felt like I wanted to pick this blog back up as a way to just write about random stuff, a way to escape reality of every day life chaos and a way to maybe make someone laugh. Or cry from boredom. Either way, it’s an emotion, right? Right. Just go with it.

It’s been a while.

If you’ve been here before, you know I write a lot about my training, my races and how I “balance” (or try to keep things together with chewing gum and tape) life as a full time working mom of 2 girls.

I won’t go into all the fun details of 2019 but in summary, I pretty much had a down year as far as triathlons go. Rob decided to do his second full Ironman in October at Louisville so his training took priority and I tried the best I could to support him throughout. And he absolutely killed his race. He trained so hard and so well, and it showed on the course.

We realized after Ironman Maryland in 2018 that it wouldn’t be the best idea for us to race together going forward. It’s actually probably better that way, so each of us can focus on our races while the other takes more of the lead with the kids and everyday life. We try our best to time our training which means a lot of early mornings for both of us these days. I think we’re both asleep before the girls most nights!

But I’m honestly looking forward to this year. I started a new training plan through TriDot, which I found through a free trial that I ended up continuing because I really liked what they offer. I have an app that gives me very specific workouts each day that challenge me, but take around an hour each so it doesn’t dominate my life. Amazing! I’ll let you know how it plays out on the race course, but so far I’m sensing that I may be pleasantly surprised by the “work smarter, not harder” concept. That’s new to me after years of just putting hours on end into my training and frankly getting burned out by the time my races came around.

We’ll see how that approach goes for 2020. I’ll keep you posted. Because I know you’re dying to know, right?

Right.

Since January has been 234984 days long, I’ve been just under water with most everything. Traveling for work has picked up, too, which may become more of the norm going forward. So I’ll have to account for that as I work towards my first half marathons in March (back-to-back weekends for those, because why not?!)

I’m glad you’re here to be back on this whole blog journey with me. I hope I can keep up the posts, as interesting topics hit me or I need to vent about how my 5-year-old never lets me brush her hair, or just to tell a great Dad joke. I have a whole arsenal of those now which is fun.

Thanks for checking in – I appreciate you all!

Have a great weekend!

  1. I’m glad you’re back! I’m excited to see how the coaching goes for you on race day! I still think you should do IMMT with me this year 😉 Bring on the jokes…I’m always up for a good one!
